Boy Scout Troop 242 Gives Copy of Charter to Council 5480
23 May 2006

Troop 242, based out of Founder's Hall, has grown to 25 Scouts with 15 Adult Leaders.  During the last two years the Troop has graduated 4 Eagle Scouts.  As a sign of appreciation for the support that Council 5480 gives their Troop, a number of the Scouts participate in a ceremony where they give a copy of their official charter.  See more pictures here.

2006 Appreciation Dinner

Council 5480 held its annual Appreciation Dinner on 02 June 2006 to show support for local Police Officers, Firefighters, and EMS.  See pictures of the event including award presentations.

This brother works behind the scenes at most events.  He is quick to volunteer to help out whenever possible.  He drove all the way to Va. Beach to help out with an event recently. June's Knight of the Month is John Silva.

This brother has been active in the Council and Club since he transferred into the Council a few years back.  He and his wife are active in church and he volunteers in the other organizations he belongs to. He has chaired various committees, continues to help out at many events and has always done a good job. Family of the Month for June is Lou and Yvonne Stokes Jr.

Council 5480 is Awarded Bowling Trophy by State!

The VA State programs director, Ron Gorman, was pleased to award Council 5480 a trophy for their outstanding performance in the 2006 bowling tournament held in April. 

Brother Knight Bill Bundick built a very nice stand for the trophy where it will be kept until the 2007 winner is awarded.  Come see the trophies and pictures when you come to the Knight's Den.

Ralph Filicko wins Week #1 Football Pool

By a narrow margin, Ralph selected the most correct teams to win and had the closest estimate on the Monday night spread.  Congratulations to Ralph!!!

If you would like to participate in the pool, come to the Knights Den on Fridays, during the regular season, between 7 and 8 p.m. to get your form.

Council 5480 competed in the State Bowling Tournament in Sterling, Virginia.  The Council fielded 4 teams plus 1 ladies team.

Brother Knight Joel Villarin is pleased to announce that he and his wife have an addition to their family!  Their son, Emmett Michael, was born on Saturday, 26 May at 1633 at Langley AFB Hospital.  He was 5lbs, 9oz, 19 in. long.  Joel says, "It's hard to tell who he looks like at this point.  He definitely has my fat nose!"

Arlington Wreath Laying Ceremony

More than 50 Sir Knights, wives and guests from Assembly 2430 visited Arlington National Cemetery and participated in a Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown.

 

 

Cribbage Tournament 2007

With 12 Brother Knights in attendance, Council 5480 conducted a double-elimination cribbage tournament.  The competition was fierce; lasting well into the night.  The following Knights emerged victorious:

2nd Place - Dom Bevacqua, PGK
3rd Place - Steve Sprinkle

Mother's Day 2007

Knights and their families came to the Hall to celebrate Mother's Day.  Council 5480 combined this event with a 'baby shower' for the pregnancy crisis center.  We collected over a truck load of consumables for newly born children.

USS Scorpion Ceremony

Sir Knights held an annual ceremony honoring the brave men of the USS Scorpion who perished when the boat sank in the Atlantic.

Sir Knights along with Boy Scouts from Troop 242 participated in a flag raising at our Council Home.  Mayor Frank spoke about patriotism.  More than 150 people attended the event.

Golf Tournament

Assembly 2430 hosted a Golf Tournament with over 80 players.  The proceeds from the tournament went to the Wounded Warriors program.

Pancake Breakfast

Knights cooked, served, and cleaned up after a pancake breakfast at St. Jerome Catholic Church.  The breakfast served both as a community event and a recruitment tool.  Council 5480 is looking forward to meeting all the prospective members at our Open House on 30 January 2008.
 
State Meeting
11 - 13 January 2008
Knights from throughout Virginia converged upon Peninsula Catholic High School to conduct their quarterly meeting.  Council 5480 assisted in preparing for the meeting and providing facilities.
